Robert asked: My wife and I rent a house in Aurora, CO, and there are only a couple of garbage pickup options. The local company refuses to pick up our garbage because their records show that one of the previous tenants owes a balance. They offered to resume service if I paid off the outstanding balance (I did tell them which garbage can they could stick that offer into).
Any ideas? Legal remedies?
I should add that this debt was before my landlord owned this property.

Queen Queso asked: My neighbor is burning his trailer down instead of paying for it to be removed. We are in the state of Indiana. Is this legal?

rnemtp asked: I’ve signed the contract. The bank told me my monthly payments. The lender/underwriters have backed out b/c the appraisal was high! What legal obligations are involved since I’m right on my end and the contract was signed saying that the bank is going to get the loan. I’m in limbo now with nothing to making payments to except outrageous payments of interest on a construction loan? Isn’t there something that can be done to push things along?

anne adette asked: I plan on living in an on-campus apartment next year with my boyfriend, who is not a student.
Whether or not we should live together is not an issue, I’m just not sure of the legal implications or consequences I might suffer.
Can he legally use that address as a permanent place of residence even though he doesn’t pay room & board or attend the college?
Is this type of stuff generally accepted/allowed with universities?

Laurie asked: My boyfriend would like to move out of his apartment on December 31st. His lease is month to month with 46 days’ notice, but has a clause that prevents him from terminating the lease from December 1 to February 28th. Is this a legal and enforcable lease clause in the state of Minnesota?

Weber asked: My friends’ landlord placed this in their lease while one was working in a restaurant. My friend no longer works in a restaurant. The landlord has now threatened to evict if they do not pay a lump sum in cash. It seems like shaky legal ground to me. Just looking for some legal opinions. Thanks.
The landlord has not received this for some time. There is no mention of a monetary suppliment in the addendum. They want a lump sum of $1500 for 4 months of food. I believe the landlord has had financial woes.

Is it customary for the lawyer to receive one-third of the monetary sale of the one partners’ half plus reimburse any out-of-pocket costs?

radianceremnance asked:
My landlord (occupant of the house) is about to write a lease for me. He seems trustworthy but I want to make sure that everything is cool before I sign it. I will view it but also want a lawyer to view it. How much does a lawyer charge for that kind of stuff? It’s a simple, standard, residential lease.

My fiance is considering becoming licensed to sell real estate. I am a first year law student. I have learned a little about real estate transactions and how they work. I understand the roles of both the broker and the attorney, but I’m wondering if my husband-to-be and I will be able to use our skills together to start our own business. Will I have to have a separate practice, or can the real estate lawyer be a part of the broker’s company?
