I need help with a legal question about confessing to a lawyer?

A defendant has confessed his crime to his lawyer in the privacy of his law office.

A. The lawyer cannot put the defendant on the stand to perjure himself at trial.
B. The lawyer must immediately resign from the case
C. The lawyer is legally and ethically required to notify the state that his client is guilty
D. This confession is totally meaningless

    Definitely A, because a lawyer is an officer of the court and he cannot knowingly allow a client to perjure himself on the stand.
