Is it legal to bring a gun to California from another state?
Joshua asked:
I live in California and a friend is going to visit me from Texas and he wants to bring a gun so we can go shooting at the range. Is that legal? If so does it have to be a California legal gun or can he bring a gun that is legal in Texas but not legal here?

it seems anyone can carry the weapon in texas even in open view
in california, you have to make sure the gun is NOT LOADED and locked in a secure box IF YOu have the gun in your car while driving from one loc to another
otherwise if you get stopped by a cop for any reason, good luck explaining to the cop, it WILL lead to arrest and confisc weapon. blah

If it’s a gun that’s not legal in California, then he obviously cannot bring it here. What makes you think that people from other states should get special privileges?
If it’s a CA-legal gun, then he can bring it here. If it needs to be registered under CA law, he would have to make sure to do that.
Overall, the laws regarding interstate transport of firearms are complicated and I would not recommend it. It’s cheaper to rent a gun at the range than to hire a lawyer to find out whether the transport is legal. gomanyes

yes, you can travel with the gun as long as it is registered to you and you are responsible for it. chance&tank24
