Is it legal to drive without a front bumper and head lights in the daytime?

legal
Eyeball asked:

My car was in a front end collision and i need to take it to a body shop to see about repairs. The car has tax and MOT and i can insure it just for the day. I can also put the number plate in the front wind screen. However, i have removed the front bumper, headlights and indicators. Is it still legal to drive?

    Strictly no, its not legal.
Without bumper if there are sharp edges thats one offence.
Number plate is easy to get around but no front indicators means the rear ones wont work properly either.

Now if you were to tow it round to the body shop, you may get away with it or better still on a trailer. oldhombre

If you think about safety your car have to be on tow to get to the repairs. It is not safe to drive without indicators even in the daytime. You decide what you will do (ask in garage: they may be able to organise delivery of your car to the garage). i had trouble with my radiator and I had 10 minutes to get to the garage. I did drive there and I belief it is worse than bumper Everona97

No it is not legal..a good repairer/Body-shop will collect the car for you if it’s in no fit state to drive. If they will not collect your car find another garage that will.

All the best : ) olivepuggy

On an MOT the tester will be looking to see if the car has any sharp edges that can catch a pedestrian. Without the front bumper there is a potential for the bumper mountings to catch pedestrians. jason c

it is illegal for the owner of the car to do this. Really, it is frowned on for body shops to do this. But sometimes, the car has to be transported and the car is still in pieces. I worked in a body shop and had to drive a ‘06 mercedes 50 miles to a dealer. Like i said, you shouldn’t do it, but sometimes you got to do what you need to do. fierofreak179

Well, you know it very well, it is illegal. When a car is not road-worthy and you drive, it is you are breaking law. Honestly, tell me how can you take a risk to drive a car without bumpers, no headlights, no indicator lights, no number plate and yet coming to us to for an answer. Amazing, what do you think we are, or you just wanted to wind us up otherwise? Alf
