Is it legal to install a Turbo System in a car that does not offer as a factory item?

I live in Southern California and I see these shows and see cars at work or on the street that are highly modified and are driving on freeways. Is it legal to modify anything, as long as orginal emissions components are still intact? What is the limit? I found headers and intakes that are carb exempt but have not found anything on turbo kits. Anybody with any info are more than welcome to assist. Thank you.

Yes, its legal as long as you can pass emissions tests and don’t mind having your warranty voided. Automotive Expert

well there are some parts out there that are illegal for road use in certain states. i dont really think that there are illegal turbos out there, and i think that there is a website for the state of california on which parts are illegal and which are legal. watisman

No. it’s not illegal to install a turbo on your car or (Nos) turbo can be ran on the streets legally. Nos well that a different subject. Hundreds of cars have turbo charger system one more want hurt. Only factor to that is your money and safety on installing a after factory turbo. If not done right you can damage the part(money) and caught your car on fire. (safety) chase J
