What are some legal charities that would allow a sixteen year old to volunteer during the school year in NYC?
Aeds asked:
I want to volunteer at a legal charity during my junior year of high school but it seems like there aren’t any opportunities. It seems like most places only want law school students/graduates. I wouldn’t mind doing grunt work; I just want to experience helping other people in a legal setting.

Look into Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army. You are also old enough to volunteer at a hospital, although the TB test you have to get is a pain in the butt. Hazel-Eyes

id go sit in at a local courthouse. but I think that most people who are in a courtroom would rather not be there at all. legal battles, divorces, people facing jail time etc. I do not think that without any legal experience there would be nothing for you to do. I hope im wrong for your sake. but dont give up! chris r

The United Way Voluntary Action Center works as placement agency for volunteers and pairs them with not-for-profit agencies. You can specify your location, hours available, areas of interest, etc., and they’ll hook you up. xwdguy
