Taxed on the married rate rather then the single rate. All other “privileges” are customary and outside of law.

As you can see from some of the answers above, its not about “love” but is all about money. WhatBrain?

Right to give medical consent for an uncomscious partner.

Right to retirement and SS survivors benefits.

1. The right to inherit property without a will being made.
2. The right to medical decisions for the other person in the event he or she is unable to make those decisions due to their medical condition.
3. The right to property purchased after the marriage date in the event of a divorce.
4. The right not to testify against him or her in a court of law.

In other words…all the same rights granted to a heterosexual couple when they marry. Poohcat1
