Look, understanding criminal defense is hard for most of us to do. We see certain cases and we know, or at least think we do, that the person is guilty. However, remember that justice is blind. It must allow for a defense of all cases, no matter how terrible the circumstances. Otherwise, we would be drawing the line that said when enough people reading about a crime believed that the person had committed it, then they would no longer deserve a trial. Therefore, trials such as this where we certainly believe the right person is on trial are necessary to protect the next innocent person down the line that is accused but is actually innocent. All people are guaranteed a trial that should be exhaustive enough to prove that the crime was committed by that person. It does seem that a lot of time could be saved in so many cases, but who gets to decide which cases are automatic and which ones aren't?

And on WHAT do you base your belief that the guy is NOT innocent?

Do you believe we should do away with trials and just assume that anyone the police accuse of a crime is guilty and should be punished accordingly?

Do you honestly believe that everyone convicted of a crime really did it? If so, I have some wonderful ocean-front property in Arizona I'd like to sell you cheap.

Go to to read about HUNDREDS of people released from prison, sometimes years later, after being proven to be innocent of the crimes they were convicted of.

Edit... "it would be wrong for the lawyer to say his client was "innocent"...."

Wrong. If the lawyer actually believes that his client is innocent - which is not the same as "they can't prove he's guilty" - then it is completely ethical for him to say so.
