What legal liability do bank employees have regarding the release of private information?
Pascha asked:
If a bank employee is careless about how he/she treats the private information of customers, so as to increase the risk of identity theft, or if a bank employee himself or herself takes a job simply to get such information, what are the legal penalties?

well, if the bank employee takes the job just to get information, it depends on how they intend to use it. taking the job purely to obtain such information is not in any way shape or form illegal. but some of the things they could do with it are.
as for legal liability, if the customer suffers from identity theft and can prove it was a result of the employees negligence, the BANK could be held liable under the tort of negligence. the bank, not the bank employee, its called vicarious liability. peterpan
